Säynäjäsuo hiking trail 10 km, Suomussalmi Finland
In the extensive Säynäjäsuo-Matalasuo mire conservation area, the easy trail crosses bogs over duckboards and leads through boreal pine forest. The open marsh area hosts a most significant biodiversity of birdlife. The smap landscapes are particularly expansive and beautiful. Numerous rare mire-, water- and wilderness-birds nest in the area. In addition, in the autumn, berry pickers can enjoy Säynäjäsuo natural offerings. The route passes through wide bogs and lush fir forests to the boreal pine forest of the Syväjärvi ridges. At the Syväjärvi grilling hut near the middle of the tour, you can take a break and enjoy the view over the lake. Because the trail features a fireplace and exhibits only small differences in altitude, the tour is well suited as a day trip destination even for the whole family.
