A nature trail of 16 springs in Valkeisjärvi, Lestijärvi
The views along this route are breathtaking, as Lake Valkeinen remains visible for the entire time. The brightness of the lake comes from 16 springs located at the bottom of the lake. Thanks to the sandy bottom and clear water, you can see fish swimming from the beach.
This easy-to-walk route can be recommended to the whole family, even though the rocky section at the beginning of the route may be somewhat slow to travel for the smallest members of the family. Halfway along the route, there is a rest area that is equipped with a regular and an overnight lean-to, a campfire site, and an outhouse. Along the route, there are also nature’s own benches (tree trunks) that can be used for sitting and taking in the view.
The Valkeisjärvi route is part of the Peuran polku trail and the connecting trail to Salamajärvi National Park and the Hirvaan kierros trail.
The game restaurant Riistaravintola Pikku Peura and the Valkeisjärven leirintäalue camping site are good places to start the hike.

Turn-by-turn directions
The circular walking route starts from the yard area of the Riistaravintola Pikku Peura restaurant, where there are also guide signs for the Peuran Polku trail. The route follows the shores of Lake Valkeinen, and the lake can be seen from the trail for the entire duration of the hike. It is advisable to walk the route in the clockwise direction.
The hike starts by taking a left from the Pikku Peura restaurant, after which the shoreline is to be followed towards the Valkeisjärven leirintäalue camping site. From the camping site beach, the route continues along duckboards and a path that runs in boreal forest terrain. At the lakeside, there are several resting spots that have been shaped by nature and that can be used for taking in the wonderful views of Lake Valkeinen.
The next leg of the trail is to be taken via duckboards over a marshland area. From the point where the duckboards stop, the hike is to be continued in the direction indicated by the sign, i.e., towards the Pökkelöniemen laavu lean-to. The Pökkelöniemi rest area (equipped with a regular and an overnight lean-to, a campfire site, and an outhouse) is located halfway through the route.
From the rest area, the route continues via duckboards and along the shoreline until it turns slightly away from the shore. The hike is to be continued, along a wider forest road, in the direction indicated by the guide signs. Then, from the point where the path takes a right, the route is to be travelled over a sandy ridge that is located a small distance away from the shore of the lake.
After the sandy ridge, the path runs along the shoreline until the head (and end) of the trail is reached. Along the route, there are natural spots for taking a swim.
