Panoramic hiking route from Cannobio via St. Agata and Marcalone Alp to Monte Giove (1298m). There are great views along the way and especially at the summit.

Very nice route with many great viewpoints, starting in Cannobio near the suspension bridge, over St. Agata (on the way you have some nice views of Lake Maggiore) to the beautifully situated Marcalone Alp. Here you can get great cappuccinos and excellent tiramisu! The path leads on partly wide and at times quite narrow paths (short also very steep and secured with wire ropes) to the summit. There you have a great panoramic view over the Lago Maggiore. Descent via Biessen back to St. Agata Cannobio.
Author’s recommendation
The suspension bridge with countless love castles is worth seeing, the church square in St. Agata offers a beautiful view and there is a street café. The Marcalone Alp is beautifully situated above the lake where you can enjoy a cappuccino and extremely delicious tiramisu. A rest is worthwhile in any case! The summit itself also offers a great view.

Turn-by-turn directions
From the parking space in Via San Rocco (near the campsite), cross the suspension bridge and go along the river towards the lake. At the river bend, turn left and up a somewhat hidden staircase to the road. Follow it for a short while and then turn left up the next cul-de-sac, which then turns into a hiking trail. Follow the path to St. Agata. Follow the path through a hidden archway up the stairs to the forest. After the small chapel, there is a fork - follow the route in the direction of Marcalone Alp. From the alp, continue towards Monte Giove, where you can take a short cut by following the very narrow, steep path (partly secured with ropes). The summit is relatively flat and offers a great panoramic view. The descent follows the same path, but then you turn left towards Rambiago, after Rambiago towards Biessen. Shortly before Biessen turn left again towards St. Agata. Turn right in front of the church into Via Traffiume past the cemetery and then follow a narrow path downhill towards Cannobio. At the edge of the village, turn left and walk through the village back to the car park.
