Go to Route PlannerHiking trails along the South Tyrolean Wine Road
From Salurn on the border with Trentino to Nals leads the South Tyrolean Wine Road, which connects 16 towns. On the approximately 150 kilometer long route you will find numerous hiking trails that invite you to explore the area and visit the wineries. If you are fit enough, you can also hike up to lofty heights from here. The Regglberg with the Trudner Horn, Schwarzhorn and Weißhorn is ideal for this. At the foot of the mountain you will be surprised by the Bletterbach Gorge, also called South Tyrol's Grand Canyon. Hikes through this natural monument from the Ice Age give an insight into the history of the formation of the Dolomites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Hiking between palm trees and mountains
Passing imposing castles and estates, the route leads to a very special natural spectacle, the ice holes at the foot of the Gandberg mountain south of Eppan. This is a geological peculiarity that causes icicles to form on boulders here at an altitude of around 500 meters, even in summer. The mystical place is the perfect destination for easy hiking tours. An easy circular trail with a length of 6.5 kilometers can be completed in about 2:45 hours. Afterwards, there is still enough time for a swim at the lake or a visit to a castle.
Hiking between palm trees and mountains
The region around Bolzano, Lake Kaltern, the South Tyrolean Wine Road and the Dolomites is Mediterranean yet alpine. From the sea of flowers in the Bletterbach Gorge in spring to the golden vineyards along the Wine Road in autumn, every season has its own charm when hiking in South Tyrol's south. A wide variety of hiking trails here invite you to take a leisurely hike for pleasure, an entertaining family hike and challenging hiking tours. When hiking in South Tyrol's south, there really is something for everyone and you could make your vacation very versatile. This is ensured not only by the unique nature but also by an enormous wealth of cultural sights. The number of culinary specialties that await you here is almost inexhaustible.
Castles as far as the eye can see
Eppan an der Weinstraße is the largest wine-growing community in South Tyrol and the region with the most castles in Europe. In addition to fantastic hikes through vineyards, apple groves, forests and picturesque lakes, you can also hike to castles here. The 9.5-kilometer-long, easy Three Castles Hike combines culture and nature and leads to the castles:
- Boymont Castle Ruin - the romantic castle was built around 1230, for refreshment there are daily fresh ribs and roasts from the smoker.
- Korb Castle - the castle with residential and defense tower from the 13th century is located below the Boymont Castle ruins and today houses a luxury hotel with restaurant, tennis courts and swimming pool.
- Hocheppan Castle - one of the most important castles of the country from the 12th century, the fortified castle with famous castle chapel is located high above Eppan.
