Walk the 5,3-kilometre-long Tree Species Trail in the Punkaharju Arboretum which introduces its visitors to more then 30 different tree species. Along the route you will find for example the area’s oldest forest, Motell larch forest, planted already in 1877. Established in the 1930s, the purpose of the Arboretum is to study the characteristics and success of tree species in Finland. The park has over 50 species of trees, most of which are conifers. The tree species along the trail are labelled.
This easy-to-follow trail follows the gravel roads crossing the arboretum area and is marked with red paint symbols and signposts.
On the eastern side of the tree park you will find a magnificent viewpoint on the Karjalankallio rock with a well-equipped lean-to fireplace. Karjalankallio offers wonderful views of the beautiful Puruvesi Lake. Remember to bring your own drinks and snacks!
