Watzmannhaus
First built in 1888 and since then rebuilt and extended at a steady pace, the house is now one of the largest huts of the German Alpine Club.
The Watzmannhaus is particularly busy and sought-after as a base and starting point for the challenging Watzmann crossing - one of the most beautiful, if not the most beautiful crossing in the Eastern Alps. But also less demanding but nevertheless very attractive destinations can be explored from the house.
For those who are not afraid of the 3-3.5 hour ascent from Ramsau, a day's hike up to the hut is a real pleasure, as you will be rewarded with a unique view of this alpine jewel.
The unique view from the cozy terrace down to Berchtesgaden is legendary. Annette Verst, the host of the hut, creates every day the most delicious dishes, which are almost addictive. Friends of cultivated wines also come here to indulge themselves, as Bruno Verst pays special attention to a very well maintained wine cellar.
The house offers a total of 200 sleeping places - from a cuddly double room to a large mattress store. Especially during the Bavarian summer holidays, early reservation is recommended, as even this house can often offer less sleeping space than is requested. Please use the convenient online reservation system for your booking.
Especially popular is the "Watzmann Tour" - a four-day hike from hut to hut around the Watzmann and across the Berchtesgaden National Park. The Watzmannhaus is the base camp for the first night.
We are unbelievably happy if you drop by to pay us a visit.
