Cultural Path - hiking in Haminalahti village near Kuopio
Savonia University of Applied Sciences Verified partner Explorers Choice
This 3,1 km long nature trail will take you to the the landscape of Haminalahti Manor.
Haminalahti is renowned as the village of bird painters. The artist brothers Magnus (1805-1868), Wilhelm (1810-1887) and Ferdinand (1822-1906) von Wright are from Haminalahti Manor. The home environment, the landscape and nature of Haminalahti, formed the basis of their art and range of subjects. The von Wright Brothers are especially known as bird painters, and as creators of scientific illustrations of flora and fauna.
The most famous view of the route is probably in the painting painted by Ferdinand von Wright in 1853 "Näköala Haminalahdelta" (View of Haminalahti). The painting was seen as a symbol of the Finnish landscape. Zacharias Topelius named the painting as the new verse of Finland's national anthem "Maamme laulu". In these landscapes, Ferdinand von Wright also painted Finland's most copied piece of art "Taistelevat metsot" (Fighting Capercaillies).
