Castelrotto is the ideal starting point for hikes on the Alpe di Siusi and in the adjacent Schlern-Rosengarten Nature Park. From Siusi allo Sciliar, the Alpe di Siusi cable car takes you comfortably up to Compatsch. Family-friendly and partly even barrier-free paths make the dreamlike mountain world of the Dolomites accessible to everyone.
Europe's largest high alpine pasture is a true hiker's paradise, and not only in summer. All year round you will find the best conditions for enjoyable hut or hiking tours in the surrounding mountains. Especially in autumn, nature invites you to enjoy hiking with its enchanting play of colours.
High up: Schlern Massif and Rosszahnscharte
The Schlern is a real feast for the eyes from a distance! However, if you want to get a little closer to South Tyrol's landmark and are in good shape, you should make your way up.
Starting from Compatsch, you hike along the tourist trail in the direction of the Schlernhaus. From there it is only 20 minutes to the highest point of the Schlern plateau, the Petz (2,536 m above sea level). The wonderful panorama with views over the Catinaccio and the Dolomites with the Sassolungo, Sassolungo and Marmolata will remain in your memory for a long time.
Lovers of impressive rocks and extensive hiking tours should consider the descent via the Tierser Alpl hut and the Rosszahnscharte. The jagged rock formation is surrounded by lush meadows from which it seems to literally shoot out.
Hiking with children in Castelrotto
Around Castelrotto, little hikers also get their money's worth. For example, easy hiking trails lead from the centre of Castelrotto to the wonderful Marinzen Alm with its playground. On the way, the witches' chairs stimulate the imagination - two chair-shaped boulders that are said to have served the witches of the Sciliar as a resting place.
The Oswald von Wolkenstein trail takes the young hikers into the medieval world of the famous minnesinger and poet. At the foot of the Santnerspitze, the theme trail leads through the Hauenstein Forest, where two real witnesses of the Middle Ages await you with the ruins of Hauenstein and Salegg castles.
But also away from the hiking trails, Castelrotto offers a wealth of leisure activities for young and old, for example
- Swimming in the idyllic Völser Weiher lake
- Experience history at Trostburg Castle
- get to know South Tyrolean tradition in the museum of traditional costumes
- enjoying a game of golf in the fresh mountain air
